Willow began early labor about 10PM. Restless through the night, she began panting more heavily and digging in her whelping box. At 2:45AM, she began noticeably contracting and within two minutes, puppy #1 was born!
A blue harlequin female came out squawking and ready to nurse!
Forty-five minutes later, puppy #2, a Merle male was born. In the coming
two hours, a blue male and another Merle boy were welcomed into the
world!
Two and half hours passed after the forth puppy, and despite a few mild contractions, Willow hadn't produced anymore pups despite the fact I was positive there were more waiting to make their debut. By 8AM, I was concerned something could be amiss, so I called our vet. She suggested I bring Willow in for c-section.
By the time we got to the vet's office, they were ready and waiting. Dr P asked if we'd like to sit in while he did the surgery and help in puppy retrieval. Needless to say, it was good we did! Eight more babies were handed to us faster than we could revive them!
Thankfully, the delivery went well, and we walked away with a healthy mama and twelve healthy babies <3 Ten males and two females, to say we're a little lopsided is an understatement.
